Safety
Want to travel solo? There are good reasons for going it alone. Women traveling on their own are less threatening to people and may be invited to places men or couples are not. When you're on your own you do what you like and don't have to worry about making anyone else happy.
Safety is on any woman's mind whether she's traveling or not. The sad truth is that women are not necessarily safer in their home town than they are in a foreign city. Traveling is not cause to throw caution to the wind and being informed about the location you're visiting is important. You don't want to find yourself in a part of town that locals know is not safe for any solo traveler, especially women. Don't be so polite that you mistake being 'culturally sensitive' with allowing yourself to be harassed. If something doesn't feel right, it probably isn't, so act on it. Don't worry about making a fuss or drawing attention to yourself, be loud and even rude if you think you're being threatened.
One of the most dangerous things a woman can do while traveling on her own is drink too much or use drugs. Not only is your judgement impaired but you've identified yourself as an easy mark to people looking to take advantage of someone.
